America Ferrera to star alongside Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling in live-action Barbie film

A live-action Barbie movie headlined by Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling has been in the development for some time now. The latest is that Superstore-actor America Ferrera has joined the cast of the Warner Bros.' film.

Barbie is directed by Greta Gerwig, who also co-wrote the script with writer-filmmaker Noah Baumbach. The film has Robbie playing the titular role and Gosling playing Ken. Details of Ferrera's role is yet to be revealed. Plot details are also unknown at the moment.

Barbie is produced by Robbie under her LuckyChap Entertainment production banner along with LuckyChap’s Tom Ackerley. Robbie Brenner will also produce through Mattel, as will David Heyman via Heyday Films. LuckyChap’s Josey McNamara and Mattel’s Ynon Kreiz serve as executive producers.

Meanwhile, Ferrera is all set to make her feature directorial debut with an adaptation of Erika Sánchez’s bestselling novel I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter. She will soon be seen in Apple TV+'s limited series We Crashed, starring Jared Leto and Anne Hathaway, which is set to release in March.
