Rashida Jones to star in Apple's Sunny

It has been announced that Rashida Jones will be headlining an upcoming series titled Sunny currently in development at Apple TV. Billed as a dark dramedy, Lucy Tcherniak, whose directorial credits include Station Eleven and The End of the F***ing World, is reportedly attached to direct the series.

Katie Robbins, whose writing credits include The Affair and The Last Tycoon, has written the series, based on the book Dark Manual by Colin O'Sullivan.

Jones will be essaying Suzie, an American woman whose life turns upside down when her husband and son disappear in a mysterious plane crash. She then receives a robot named Sunny from her husband's electronics company to help her through the grieving period. Both of them form an unexpected friendship and soon set out to hunt down the truth behind her family's disappearance.

Jones will also be serving as an executive producer along with Robbins, Ravi Nandan and Jess Lubben. The principal photography of the show will take place in Japan.
