Carey Mulligan, Mahershala Ali, and Awkwafina are reportedly part of the voice cast of Laika’s upcoming animated film Wildwood. Laika Studios is known for making stop-motion animated films like Kubo and the Two Strings, Coraline and Paranorman.

Since stop-motion animation is a long and exhaustive process, Laika Studios have announced that they started the project almost a year ago and are only now adding a voice cast to their project. The fantasy adventure film is reportedly set in the US town of Portland, Oregon. The President and CEO of Laika Studios, Travis Knight, is directing the film, he is known for making Kubo and the Two Strings and the live-action Bumblebee film.

The film is an adaptation of Young-Adult fantasy novels by Colin Meloy and is based on the first book of a trilogy. Talking about the film in an interview, director Knight said “With ‘Wildwood,’ I have the opportunity to tell a madly ambitious story of magic, wonder, and danger set in the place I grew up. My very own Portland will join that pantheon of unforgettable fantasy realms, with a stirring epic that will kindle imaginations, lift spirits, and break hearts.”
