Ryan Gosling to star alongside Margot Robbie in Ocean’s Eleven prequel
It was reported earlier that Jay Roach, known for directing Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery and Meet the Parents is directing the prequel
Actor Ryan Gosling is reportedly in talks to star alongside Margot Robbie in Warner Bros’ planned prequel for Ocean’s Eleven. Gosling and Robbie will next be seen on screen together for Barbie, Greta Gerwig’s film based on the popular toy franchise.
It was reported earlier that Jay Roach, known for directing Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery and Meet the Parents is directing the prequel. The director is co-producing the film with Margot Robbie. Roach is producing it under his banner Delirious Media, while Robbie produces it with Tom Ackerley for LuckyChap Entertainment.
Carrie Solomon is writing the script for the film, the details of which are kept under tight wraps by the makers. However, it is known that the prequel is set in Europe in the 1960s, similar to the original film which starred Frank Sinatra as Danny Ocean and was released in 1960.
The planned prequel will be the fifth addition to the Ocean’s Eleven franchise since it was revived by Steven Soderbergh in 2001 starring George Clooney and Brad Pitt. With Soderberg's Ocean’s trilogy ending in 2007 with Ocean’s Thirteen, the franchise returned with an all-female reboot in 2018.
The prequel starring Margot Robbie although not being officially greenlit by the studio is still being developed with the intention of being released in 2023. The makers are expected to release additional cast members in the coming months.
