The 49th International Emmys awards ceremony took place in New York on Monday. Every year, television programming outside of the US is honoured at the awards. This time, the awards were presented in 11 categories, and the nominees were from 24 countries.

UK-based actors David Tennant and Hayley Squires bagged the top honours for Best Actors. Israel's Tehran was awarded the Best Drama while France's Call My Agent was chosen as the Best Comedy.

From India, Nawazuddin Siddiqui was in contention for the Best Performance By An Actor category for his film Serious Men. Susmita Sen-starrer Aarya was nominated for the Drama Series while Vir Das' comic take on Indian history, Vir Das: For India was in the race for The International Emmy for Best Comedy.

The award for Best Arts Programming went to Kubrick By Kubrick, a documentary from France built around previously unheard audiotaped interviews with the legendary filmmaker, Stanley Kubrick.
