The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HSPA) on Monday announced its nominations for its January 9 dinner. At the moment, the event is under the limelight for all the wrong reasons. In the 2020 winter, Los Angeles Times reported that Golden Globes did not have a single Black member. As a result, they also do not have a broadcast partner due to the continued scrutiny over the glaring lack of diversity among its voters.

In the video with a live viewership of 10,000 people, interim President Helen Hoehne informed viewers on YouTube that the organization had instituted changes to reform its outdated practices, including adding 21 new members.

Following this announcement, Hoehne introduced a surprise presenter - American rapper Snoop Dogg -- to kick off the nominations.

Some of the titles that have been nominated include Kenneth Branagh's Belfast, Jane Campion's The Power of the Dog. They led the nominations with seven each. On the TV side, HBO's corporate family drama Succession picked up five nominations, which is more than any other show.

For Campion, it was her second Golden Globe nomination for Best Director after 1993, when she made the cut with The Piano. The only other woman on the list is Maggie Gyllenhaal for The Lost Daughter.
