The growing ensemble cast of Martin Scorsese's upcoming Apple Original film Killers of the Flower Moon has added actor John Lithgow to play the character of Prosecutor Leaward.

Based on David Grann's 2017 bestseller, and scripted to screen by Eric Roth, Killers of the Flower Moon is headlined by Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro. The film also stars Jesse Plemons, Lily Gladstone, Gary Basaraba, Brendan Fraser, Tantoo Cardinal, Cara Jade Myers, JaNae Collins, Jillian Dion, William Belleau, Louis Cancelmi, Tatanka Means, Michael Abbott Jr, Pat Healy, Scott Shepherd and Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriters Jason Isbell and Sturgill Simpson.

The film is set in 1920s Oklahoma, and centres on the Osage Nation murders, in which members of the Native American tribe were murdered one by one after the group became rich off the oil found underneath their land. As the death toll rose, the newly created FBI took up the case to uncover a chilling conspiracy and one of the most monstrous crimes in US history.

Lithgow recently won sixth Emmy in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series category for playing Sir Winston Churchill in the first season of Netflix’s The Crown. The actor is also known for 1986's Amazing Stories3rd Rock from the Sun, and Perry Mason. Lithgow was nominated twice for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for Terms of Endearment and The World According to Garp. It was recently reported that the actor will reprise his role in the Dexter revival series
