NGK Teaser Breakdown: Audacious politician Suriya cleans up the system

Right from the inception of the project, even before the title announcement, NGK was expected to be a full-fledged political drama. While the posters hinted at the political content in the film, the teaser, which was released today along with Karthi's Dev, has made it clear to Selvaraghavan and Suriya fans that they are in for a roller coaster ride.

The teaser begins with the silhouette of Suriya facing a sunrise, and the 'sun' connect becomes more evident as his name appears in the same frame. The following shots show a confused Nandha Gopalan Kumaran (fondly known as NGK) overwhelmed by the support of people who unceasingly chant his name. As the teaser progresses, he begins to embrace the trust of people and starts working towards materialising their dreams. Ayutha Ezhuthu Michael fans might get several nostalgic flashes of Jana Gana Mana in several frames, as we see Suriya take on the political system after fifteen years, but this time in a more aggressive manner.

Selvaraghavan also shows us glimpses of real-world politics and merges fiction with reality. Watch out for the frame where NGK sees his reflection on a TV placed in front of a wall filled with posters of big names like Karunanidhi, EV Ramasamy, CN Annadurai, MG Ramachandran, Soniya Gandhi, Advani, Manmohan Singh, and even Vaiko. Surprisingly, former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa's poster is missing in this particular frame. Does this have any implied political relevance? We'll have to wait for the film to hit the screens to find out.

The two female leads of NGK are completely contrasting. While Rakul's character is shown as a posh, business-woman who doubts NGK's ability and asks, "Arasiyal?", Sai Pallavi's character is traditional and she supports him by saying, "Kumara.. Po da kanna.. Ne eranguna sakkadai ah irundha kuda sutham aidum.."

The teaser also features a hint of a song that has the lyrics, "Erichalum podhachalum.. pudhayal ah varuven da.." Does this refer to Suriya's dashing comeback? You never know. The final frame shows the crowd in a political meeting going crazy, as NGK's blood-soaked hand raises up. Well, going by the teaser one thing's for sure -- fans are definitely going to go crazy when the film hits the theatres.
