After making his directorial debut with Bham Bholenath in 2015 which was not successful commercially, director Karthik Dandu got the coveted acclaim on both financial and critical fronts with his sophomore directorial Virupaksha. Treading on the lines of horror without fully committing to the genre, Virupaksha is a ‘mystical thriller’ that talks about how a town named Rudravanam in Andhra Pradesh witnesses multiple freak suicides, events that have a dark connection to two lynch mob deaths that happened in the past.

Speaking to Cinema Express in an exclusive video interview, Karthik Dandu gives a tiny sneak peek at the theme of his upcoming film. Staying mum on the finer details, Karthik says, “If I even give a little hint, it might turn out to be a spoiler. All I am going to say is that this film is based on a small myth from the puranas. Nobody has tapped into that myth so far, atleast in films. I want to take that myth and explore what can happen if it takes place in the real world.”

Here's the video:

Virupaksha, starring Sai Dharam Tej and Samyuktha in the lead roles, is jointly produced by Sukumar and BVSN Prasad, under the banners Sukumar Writings and Sri Venkateshwara Cine Chitra, respectively. Sukumar has also written the screenplay of the film. B Ajaneesh Lokanath provided the music of the film, with cinematography by Shamdat and editing by Navin Nooli.
