Avengers 4 Trailer Breakdown: The title is revealed and it is Endgame

No film has made the world hold its collective breath like Avengers 4. At least since the end of Baahubali: The Beginning. Just kidding (or maybe not). Since the cliffhanger end of Avengers: Infinity War, fans have waited with bated breath for any clue as far as Avengers 4 was concerned and Marvel, which earlier this week announced that the first trailer will drop on December 7, and delivered the first clue to Avengers 4, the title, Endgame.

The trailer opens with Tony leaving a recording for Pepper Potts (and his unborn child) as he asks her not to feel sad and says in a matter-of-fact tone that the end is part of the journey. He is adrift in space and has lost all hopes of a rescue with both food and water rations gone. We see a shot of the Guardians of the Galaxy's ship - Milano(?) - as it drifts in space. But it is interesting to note that Nebula, who was the only other survivor alongside Tony is nowhere to be seen.

We then cut off to a pole where Thanos has hung his armor out to dry, eerily looking like a scarecrow. This shot is probably an homage to one of the most iconic shots of the Infinity Gauntlet comics where Thanos retires in peace at the end. We then see his hand with the burnt out Infinity Gauntlet in a sunflower field as Black Widow's voice quivers, "Thanos did what he said he was going to do. He wiped out 50% of all living creatures." Captain America's face is followed by that of Bruce Banner who watches his screen saying Scott Lang is missing. In the far right of the screen, you see a photo of Shuri followed by that of Peter Parker, both of whom are also listed as missing. It is interesting to note that Shuri wasn't really shown to disappear in Infinity War.

The next shot is that of an airport base, which if you remember is the same shot you see in the Captain Marvel trailer. With Captain Marvel not shown in this trailer at all, this is the closest we probably get to a clue. But then again, this could be a red herring. Given the time travel theories that abound, this might be a nod to the famous fight scene we saw in Civil War. However, I tend to believe it is the former here.

We then see shots of Thor and Nebula as the latter inspects the Guardians' ship and touches the seat belt of her sister, who Thanos killed in the first part to acquire the Soul Stone. Finally, we see Hawkeye. The guy was missing in Infinity War and we see him in his Ronin avatar - no arrows, a sword and apparently in a fight-to-kill mode. With Black Widow donning a suit and looking way younger with auburn hair, this could be a throw back to Damascus, when Black Widow and Hawkeye first met each other.

Steve Rogers and Widow are ready in the present to launch a final attack which, according to Captain America, "is the fight of our lives and I know it will work, because if it doesn't, I don't know what I am gonna do." As the title card reveals it is an endgame, we see a recording of Scott Lang/Antman (who was shown earlier in the trailer as missing) asking to open the door in the present time, making us wonder,

HOW DID HE GET OUT OF THE QUANTUM REALM?

Can't wait for the second trailer that will eventually come with more clues. But for now, we just have to say, Thanos, the endgame is here and your end is nigh.
