Rakesh Roshan suffering from early-stage throat cancer, reveals Hrithik

Hrithik Roshan on Tuesday morning revealed that his father, director Rakesh Roshan, is suffering from early-stage cancer, and was scheduled to go into surgery later in the day. Sharing a picture with senior Roshan on social media, Hrithik wrote, “Asked my dad for a picture this morning. Knew he wouldn't miss gym on surgery day. He is probably the strongest man I know. Got diagnosed with early-stage squamous cell carcinoma of the throat a few weeks ago, but he is in full spirits today as he proceeds to battle it. As a family, we are fortunate and blessed to have a leader like him. Love you Dad.”

Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC) of the throat is a common form of skin cancer characterised by the uncontrolled growth of squamous cells in the epidermal (outer) layer of the throat. If treated at an early stage, SCC is not considered life-threatening.

Rakesh Roshan made his acting debut in the 1970 film Ghar Ghar Ki Kaahani. He appeared in popular films like Buniyaad, Anand Ashram, Kaamchor, Khoobsurat and Teesri Ankh. Roshan made his directorial debut in 1987 with Khudgarz, followed by Khoon Bhari Maang, Kishen Kanhaiya, Karan Arjun and Koyla.

He launched his son Hrithik in the 2000 blockbuster Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai. The father-son duo has worked together on Koi… Mil Gaya (2003), Krrish (2006) and Krrish 3 (2013). They are expected to reunite for Krrish 4, which is slated to release around Christmas, 2020.

Hrithik Roshan’s upcoming film is Super 30. The film was earlier announced to release on January 25, 2019 — however, it has been allegedly pushed to an April release.
