Yorgos Lanthimos' historical period drama, The Favourite, written by Deborah Davis and Tony McNamara, will be getting a release in India on March 1. An Ireland, United Kingdom, and United States co-production, the film is being released in India by Fox Star Studios.

Set in England in the early 18th century, the story examines the relationship between two cousins vying to be court favourites of Queen Anne. Starring Olivia Colman, Emma Stone, and Rachel Weisz, The Favourite had its world premiere at the 75th Venice International Film Festival, where it won the Grand Jury Prize and the award for Best Actress (Colman).

In addition to winning seven honours at British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) award ceremony, the film gained 10 nominations for the 91st Academy Awards, tying with Roma for the most number of nominations this year. Among other accolades, The Favourite also won a Golden Globe Award (Best Actress for Colman) and ten British Independent Film Awards.
