Amitabh Bachchan's Jhund to arrive on September 20

Amitabh Bachchan-starrer Jhund, which marks the Hindi-language debut of National Award-winning Marathi filmmaker Nagraj Manjule, known for directing the critically-acclaimed films Sairat and Fandry, is slated for release on September 20. The film is based on the life of Dr Vijay Barse, a retired sports teacher and founder of Slum Soccers — a Nagpur-based non-profit committed to the upliftment of underprivileged children through football matches.

Co-produced by T-Series in association with Taandav Films Entertainment, Jhund was shot on-location in Nagpur over a two-month schedule in November last year. Apart from Amitabh, the other characters in the film are played by newcomers. Speaking about the film, Nagraj had earlier stated, “Working with Mr Bachchan on a story like this is a dream come true. He has always been my favourite, and there was nobody other than him who'd fit the role perfectly and do justice to this particular character. Since I have been known to work with fresh talent, I think the combination of Mr Bachchan with this young team will be something to watch out for.”

Meanwhile, Amitabh is awaiting the release of Badla, co-starring Taapsee Pannu, on March 8.
