Thappattam goes head-to-head with Vivegam

The relatively small-budgeted Thappattam is all set to take on the might of Vivegam this Friday. The film's lead actor Sudhakar and first-time producer Adam Bawa are both unfazed. The latter has already announced that the entire collection will be given to the farmers who protested in Delhi for their rights. He says, "We had announced the release date of our film much earlier. Even though it is made on a small budget, the film will be releasing in over 100 screens. I am happy that my film will get some attention for releasing alongside Vivegam." Adam also says he was very happy when lawyer and farmer P Ayyakannu, who led the farmers protest in Delhi recently, called him to appreciate the good gesture of giving the collection to the farmers.

Meanwhile, debutant Sudhakar says that by the end of next year, 10 of his films will get released. "Well, it was all due to the word-of-mouth publicity generated by the technicians during the making of Kaliattam, which was supposed to be my debut. But Thappattam has jumped the queue," says the lawyer-turned-actor from Tanjore. Sudhakar says it's his passion for films which made him take the plunge. "During my school and college days, movies of big names were nothing short of a festival. That ignited the passion in me, and well, here I am all set for an entry," he adds.

Sudhakar says the tag 'Public Star' was bestowed on him by the people who had watched the affection with which the unit members were treated by him. The debutant says their movie, which is centred around the happenings in a small hamlet, has no messages or preaching . "The problems are the same for a common man, be it in a city or a village," he says, and adds that every artiste has been given the desired space. "The film is narrated in a natural way. There are five songs in it that are in keeping with the village backdrop, where tiruvizhas are the order of the day."
