Yash believes that KGF will mark the beginning of a new era for Kannada cinema

With the Kannada version of KGF  alone getting released in 350 theatres, and the first shows starting as early as 4 am, even when there are major releases in other languages, the film's lead, Yash, couldn't be happier. The journey has been long but fulfilling for the actor who spent two-and-half-years working on the film.

Yash says his preparation to play Rocky’s character in the film began with discussions with director Prashanth Neel about details such as body language, behaviour and looks. “It all started with growing a beard and getting into the costumes of the 80s (designed by Saniya Sardariya), each of which was customised. Understanding the character’s mindset took some time,” he admits.

Incidentally, KGF’s work started around the same time that he got married to Radhika Pandit, and the work for the film has continued till the birth of his daughter recently. It has been a tight schedule for Yash, who admits that work-life balance was a challenge. “My family didn’t like my bearded look. They wanted me to finish the film quickly so that I could sport a clean-shaven look. However, knowing me, they gave up and allowed me to be in the character of Rocky till now,” he says.

The actor is thrilled that the film will be released in four other languages - Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi. “We brainstormed, got the dialogues written in the respective languages and selected the voices for each character. It will be like watching an original film in all languages. A lot of hard work has gone into it,” he explains.

“I have to thank many people for making this film happen, like producer Vijay Kiragandur of Hombale Films, director Prashanth Neel, art director Shivakumar, cinematographer Bhuvan Gowda, and music director Ravi Basrur. I must say that KGF’s hero is its producer Vijay Kiragandur. It is not easy for somebody to do so much without his family’s support. He has a dedicated a lot for this project, and I wish him luck.”
