Premaku Raincheck Review: A romcom for and about millenials

On first appearance, Premaku Raincheck, that’s set against the backdrop of a startup, seems to check quite a few boxes that may be of interest to your average young adult viewer. It’s a story about young characters and how their lives get entangled.

Director: Akella Peri Srinivas
Cast: Abhilash Vadada, Priya Vadlamani, Monica Tavanam

Wiki (Abhilash Vadada) takes over as the new boss of an adventure company, and gets into a sort of personal adventure himself. He’s a man with staunch views that govern his professional and personal life. Meanwhile, Ramya (Priya Vadlamani) is an artist who also has strong views and is doing all she can to dodge her mother’s attempts to get her married. Wiki and Ramya take to each other instantly, and as their friendship progresses, rumours begin to spread in the office — the very thing Wiki has been trying hard to avoid.

Despite his feelings for Ramya, Wiki shies from pursuing the relationship owing to his conviction that office romances are unproductive. This confuses Ramya, who doesn’t express her feelings owing to her own lack of clarity. This story develops complications as it turns into a love triangle of sorts when a new girl, Tanya, who wants to get one up on Ramya by winning Wiki, enters the story. How the lives of these three, intertwined through their jobs, turn chaotic, and later get sorted, is what this film is about.

The young actors are quite likeable. Priya especially is a happy change from the non-Telugu female leads we get a lot. However, some characters, such as Ramya’s friend who’s portrayed as a promiscuous woman, could have got more screen time to fix up the inconsistencies.

Premaku Raincheck is a film meant for the youth. It packs in a lot of things and keeps you on your toes to keep track of the events. The melodies in the film do their bit to help, with the locations being quite impressive too. If you’re willing to look past the inexperience of the film’s cast, you may find that the heart of this film is in the right place.
