Rajugadu Review: Not worth your time

Following the long list of films that are based around a disorder that the protagonist suffers from, Rajugadu too tries to bank on this trend. But the film falls short of milking the full potential of the interesting one-line. 

Raju is a kleptomaniac and is vexed with his life. The people in his life, his mother, father and friends, try their best to cover for his "disease" as they like to put it. He chances upon Tanvi (Amyra Dastur) who he thinks is a good influence on him and will help him finally get rid of his disorder. How he keeps his secret from her thief-hating family and finally gets married to her is the entire film.

Although the core plot of the film is simple, the filmmakers do not want to keep it so. The convoluted narration leads to more than three threads running parallelly around the actual love story, with absolutely no relevance to the main plot. As if to add unnecessary seriousness to a romcom, a track about ISIS trying to bomb Hyderabad is introduced in the beginning of the film. To put into perspective how ridiculous that sequence is--which runs throughout the movie, mind you--here's what happens: They lose the bomb! Raju steals it. That sums up how much effort was put into avoiding any kind of sense that might seep into the film. 

Raj Tharun does not have anything new to offer, aside from his usual theatrics, which frankly, should feel monotonous even to him. Amyra Dastur's part is to simply look pretty, and she does this. 

Rajugadu looks like a hurried hotch-potch of scenes stitched together, without any thought given to the interrelation between them. The disinterest that has gone into the making the film also shows in the lack of continuity, the force-fed comedy, and in the insensitive ridiculing of a serious disorder. 

Watch Rajugadu only if you have a lot of time on your hand and low standards for comedy.
