The Supreme Court granted anticipatory bail to actors Sherlyn Chopra, Poonam Pandey and Shilpa Shetty’s husband and businessman Raj Kundra and others, in connection to a case for allegedly distributing pornographic videos.

The case was heard by Justices KM Joseph and BV Nagarathna. The Justices were quoted as saying, “Having heard the counsel for the parties, we are of the view that the petitioners may be granted anticipatory bail..." Advocate R Basant, the representative of one of the petitioners, conveyed to the bench that the charge sheet has been filed in the case. He also mentioned that those accused were providing their cooperation to the police.

It is to be noted that while Raj had got interim protection from arrest from the apex court, Sherlyn and Poonam were also named as co-accused. Raj had claimed that he did not have any connection to creating the content, its publication or transmission. He was arrested by Mumbai Police in July 2021 in another case where he was accused of distributing porn films through an app. However, he was granted bail in September 2021. A case was registered on him by the Mumbai Police cyber cell under sections of the Indian Penal Code, Indecent Representation of Women (Prevention) Act, and Information Technology Act for allegedly distributing sexually explicit videos.
