Sinners scripted history with 16 nominations at the Oscars this year. The Ryan Coogler-directed Michael B Jordan film tells the story of identical twins (the actor in a dual roles) who return to their hometown in Mississippi to start a juke joint. They are faced with a sinister supernatural evil and must strive to stay alive through the night along with their pals.
Frankenstein - Netflix
At the second position, Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein scored nine Oscar nominations. It stars Oscar Isaac as Victor Frankenstein and Jacob Elordi as Frankenstein's monster. Set during the Crimean War (1853-1856), the film, which is based on Mary Shelley's 1818 novel, follows the story of Victor Frankenstein, a brilliant but egotistical scientist who brings The Creature to life in a monstrous experiment that ultimately leads to the unravelling of both Victor and The Creature.

Directed by Zach Cregger, the horror film stars Josh Brolin and Julia Garner in key roles. In the film, all but one child from the same classroom taught by Mrs Justine Gandy mysteriously vanish on the same night at exactly the same time, following which a community is left questioning who or what is behind their disappearance.

Pixar's latest animation film Elio is a sci-fi adventure comedy revolves around a young boy who is desperate to get out of Earth to make new friends, and sends a signal to aliens. He is mistaken for being an intergalactic ambassador of Earth after being beamed up to the Communiverse by aliens where he must resolve a crisis which involves the warlord father of an alien he befriended, to win the trust of the members there.
KPop Demon Hunters - Netflix
Co-written and co-directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, KPop Demon Hunters follows a K-pop girl group, Huntrix, who lead double lives as demon hunters; they face off against a new rival boy band, the Saja Boys, whose members are secretly demons.
Train Dreams - Netflix
Based on Denis Johnson's much-loved novella, Train Dreams, directed by Clint Bently is a moving portrait of Robert Grainier, a logger and railroad worker who leads a life of unexpected depth and beauty in the rapidly-changing America of the early 20th Century.
F1 - Apple TV+
Directed by Joseph Kosinski, F1 follows a former Formula One driver Sonny Hayes (Pitt) who returns from retirement to mentor and team up with a rookie Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris). He goes head-to-head with him, and struggles to succeed. Javier Bardem and Kerry Condon also star in the film.
The Lost Bus - Apple TV+
Directed by Paul Greengrass, The Lost Bus is based on Lizzie Johnson's Paradise: One Town's Struggle to Survive an American Wildfire. The film is set during the time of the California Camp Wildfires, in 2018, where a wayward bus driver, Kevin (McConaughey), and a school teacher (America Ferrera) as they embark on a dangerous ride to save 23 school children stranded in the wildfire.
Jurassic World Rebirth - JioHotstar
Jurassic World Rebirth, a standalone sequel to 2022's Jurassic World Dominion, was directed by Gareth Edwards and written by David Koepp. Starring Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, Mahershala Ali and Rupert Friend in the lead, the film is set on an Earth which has become inhospitable to dinosaurs. A team goes into Isla Nublar to find the three largest dinosaurs to synthesise a drug that will prove beneficial to humans.
The Smashing Machine - Prime Video
Based on legendary MMA fighter Mark Kerr, The Smashing Machine, directed by Benny Safdie, starred Dwayne Johnson in the lead. It revolves around the UFC champion's life, his struggles with addiction, love and friendship. Emily Blunt plays Kerr's wife Dawn Staples.
