Game of Thrones wins the most Emmys

At the 70th Primetime Emmy Awards, HBO's Game of Thrones, which was nominated for 22 awards, won the Emmy for Best Drama as well as eight more awards. This was the show's third win in the past four years. After earlier winning seven awards at the Creative Arts ceremonies (which honour the technical achievements of American television programming), the show won two awards in the primetime ceremony.

Peter Dinklage, who plays Tyrion Lannister, won the Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series award for the third time. He had won it for the same role earlier in 2011 and 2015. The actor was up against his co-star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who plays Jamie Lannister in the series, as well as Joseph Fiennes, David Harbour, Mandy Patinkin and Matt Smith for the honour. In his acceptance speech he thanked showrunners Benioff and Weiss for changing his life and joked that he cannot walk down the street down anymore thanks to them.
