Vijay Babu responds to online criticism

Actor-producer Vijay Babu's production company Friday Film House came under fire few days ago for issuing a casting call seeking a "fair" and "lean" male actor for one of their upcoming films.

In addition to the above, the eligibiltiy criteria also explicitly stated that they need an actor who has the appearance, demeanor and talking style of someone born and brought up abroad. Many people online accused him and his company of discrimination.

Vijay Babu has finally responded to this criticism. On his Facebook page, he wrote: "What is happening is absolutely ridiculous. This is a character in a film which I'm producing. There are more than 25 newcomers in the film and we have managed to get all the other characters except this one, and the character demands that he is slim/fair and appear like someone who is born and brought up abroad. Since we have to shoot immediately we put out a specific casting call. I still stick to what we posted."

Friday Film House is known for producing Lijo Jose Pellissery's Angamaly Diaries, and the cult hits Aadu and Aadu 2. The company is also producing the sequel to Mammootty's Kottayam Kunjachan.
