Biopic of P Krishna Pillai in the works

A biopic of P Krishna Pillai, known as the founder of the Communist movement in Kerala and 'Kerala's first communist', is being planned. The big-budget film, titled Gods and Comrades, written and directed by Lenin Balakrishnan, will cover Pillai's entire life, from his birth to death. 

Lenin said, "The life of P Krishna Pillai has always fascinated me. He is a man who worked to bring about a real change. Although there have been other films made on him in the past, my intention is to do a proper biopic that covers his entire life. There are aspects of PKP's life that most of us don't know about -- even I wasn't aware of those things. I've been researching his life for more than three years. I hope to enlighten Malayalis, especially today's youngsters, who wish to see an inspiring political biopic."

A young, popular face from Malayalam cinema will be playing Pillai, though there's no official word yet on who it is. A formal casting announcement is expected to come out after this week. Filming will begin in August.
