Happy Death Day gets a sequel

The 2017 slasher film Happy Death Day, directed by Christopher B Landon, is all set to get a sequel. The news was confirmed by the film's lead Jessica Rothe.

The time-looping plot of the original had enough plot threads for a sequel, and given that Happy Death Day, which was made on a budget of 5 million, earned over 120 million worldwide, it was almost a given that the sequel would happen. Christopher Landon, the writer and the director of the original, is taking up the same responsibilities the second time around and it is expected to pick up exactly where the first one left off. Jessica Rothe returns as Theresa Tree Gelbman, whose murder set off the events of the first film, and Israel Broussard also returns as Carter Davis, Theresa's romantic interest. Suraj Sharma and Sarah Yarkin will play Samar Ghosh, a science enthusiast who loves coding and finds the time loop fascinating, and Dre Morgan, a fellow geek, respectively.

Happy Death Day 2 is all set to begin filming on May 10 and is expected to be released in time for Halloween 2019.
