Dhirren finally zeroes-in on subject for debut

For all those who have been waiting for Dhirren Kumar’s entry into Kannada cinema, here is some good news from the newbie himself. The grandson of Dr Rajkumar and new hero on the block, Dhirren reveals to Cinema Express that he has finalised a “lovely subject, which we will soon disclose.”

The son of Poornima and actor Ramkumar has piqued the curiosity within the industry circle, as well as cinegoers. The debutant, who has been preparing in all acting related departments before making his entry into the industry, took longer than most freshers to chose a film.

Ask him why it took him so long to pick a project, and he replies with, “I should be comfortable with the role I will be playing. It is not about the producer or the director helming the project, I should be completely satisified and understand the character. I did go through two to three scripts before this came by, and I was impressed.”

He adds that he wants to reveal details of about who will be directing and producing the film at the right time. “We are ready with the first half of the script. I am just waiting for the second half to be finished, before we announce the exciting news,” he says.

Dhirren doesn’t want to be stereotyped. “It is believed that a newcomer will be made to play a college student, which I am not interested in. Not that it is a bad move, but it just doesn’t excite me. I find it very boring. I always wanted a role that would challenge me, even if it puts me through a lot of work mentally and physically — I am ready to go through it. It is all about creating the right first impression. I might be right or wrong, but I will take all the responsibility. Ultimately, this film should benefit me and the team.”

He tells us he has discussed the subject with his father, uncles Shivarajkumar, Raghavendra and Puneeth. “The script is shaping up well and I don’t want jinx it. It is a new move for a debutant.”
