For the first time in the history of Marvel Cinematic Universe, a female composer will be scoring for a film in the franchise. Pinar Toprak, who composed the additional music for DC’s 2017 film Justice League, has been signed to helm the music of the female superhero film, Captain Marvel, starring Brie Larson in the titular role.

Toprak, who recently finished composing for DC’s Superman prequel TV series, Krypton, worked as a music programmer under veteran composer Hans Zimmer before she began composing music for films in 2004.

The composer took to her Instagram profile to break the news recently. “I’m so thrilled to finally announce that I will be scoring the upcoming Captain Marvel! It’s an incredible honour to be a part of the Marvel Universe,” she wrote. Toprak also went on to thank her agents, directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck “for giving me this opportunity of a lifetime” and Marvel music supervisor Dave Jordan. Captain Marvel is progressing at a brisk pace and is slated to hit the screens in March.
