Want to work with Varun Dhawan in a dance film: Daisy Shah

Daisy Shah started out as an assistant dancer, and now, she plays the lead in Bollywood films. The actor says her journey feels surreal. "I was one of the assistant dancers of Race ten years ago, and now I am one of the lead actors of Race 3, sharing screen space with some of the legends of our country like Anil Kapoor and Salman Khan. I am overwhelmed," she adds.

Her tryst with showbiz began as an assistant dancer under ace choreographer Ganesh Acharya. She then went on to be an assistant and co-dancer in many films. Daisy first worked with Salman in the film Tere Naam as a dancer. She later her debut opposite the star in Jai Ho, directed by Sohail Khan. She has also worked in many South Indian films.

Emphasising the importance of luck to grow in the entertainment industry, Daisy says, "In Bollywood, everyone works hard but not everyone gets recognition. Luck has to be on our side. It is about meeting the right people at the right time. I started from zero, really. Perhaps that is why I am quite compassionate towards people on a film set, including technicians...because I know I was one of them a while ago."

In Race 3, Daisy plays Sanjana, a strong-headed extrovert woman. In real life, she is quite the opposite. "I am more of an introvert. I would rather observe people silently. My character, on the other hand, is quite an 'out there' person," she says.

She went through extensive training in kickboxing to fit in the role. "The film has action sequences and my training really helped me gain good reflexes. I started my training in kickboxing a year ago because I wanted to learn it. Eventually, it helped me to get things right in the film."

As Race 3 is helmed by Remo D'souza -- also a well-known choreographer -- asked if she wishes to work on a dance  film with him, considering her love for the art form, she says, "I had a brief chat with Remo sir, but of course we need a right script to collaborate on a film. I so wish to dance with Varun Dhawan in a dance film. Hopefully, someday the wish will be fulfilled."

Race 3 is set to hit the screens on June 15.
