Bharjari is a suprise hit at the box office

Dhruva Sarja-starrer Bharjari directed by Chethan Kumar, which saw a big release last Friday in around 294 theatres all over Karnataka, saw a massive weekend collection, earning more than Rs 16 crore. The film, which opened to the audience for a 6 am show, minted Rs 9.80 crore between Friday and Saturday and, according to the distributors, the film made a gross collection of Rs 5.5 crore on Sunday.

This has definitely surprised the industry and filmmakers, who have not witnessed such success for sometime now, especially from a three-film- old actor Dhruva Sarja.

Despite Bharjari facing a lot of hurdles, the film was declared a paisa vasool entertainer and scored sparkling figures at the box office. Whether the film will see a spike in collection on weekdays is something to watch out for.

Meanwhile the team has another reason to rejoice. After 20 years a Kannada movie Bharjari was being screened at Urvashi and not much was expected; it was considered for only two shows. But owing to the overwhelming response the movie got, they have cancelled Bollywood film Simran and have alloted two more shows to Bharjari. Even Rex theatre saw 80 per cent occupancy.

Bharjari has appealed to the masses and drew hardcore cinegoers to the theatres, says a member of Kiran Enterrprises, who had finally picked the distribution.

The makers are planning to take the movie outside Karnataka and will be releasing it in other centres a few weeks from now.
