AMR Ramesh meets whistleblower Roopa

DIG Roopa became popular with the people of Karnataka for submitting a report on alleged special privileges given to Sasikala at the Bengaluru Central Jail and now she has caught the attention of filmmaker AMR Ramesh. The director, who plans to do a film on the whistleblower cop, has been researching on the subject ever since she submitted her report. And the recent development is that he met with Roopa last week.

Roopa is now the Commissioner for Traffic and Road Safety for Bengaluru City. Even before this meeting, the former DIG knew that Ramesh was planning a film, and she had words of appreciation for his work. In her social media status on August 17, she had written, “Thanks for the kind words AMR Ramesh avre. You were brilliant in your direction of the movies. Cyanide on Rajiv Gandhi assains and Attahasa on forest brigand Veerappan. That you found an interesting story in my whistle blowing act makes me happy and humbled. Good luck!”

Ramesh met the cop to learn more about her background and family, which he says is necessary for the story. “My focus for this biopic will be the jail episode, but I also had to know few details about her life, and what made her what she is today. I will also be meeting CID Sharath Chandra and some more people before I start drafting my script,” he says.

Ask the director which actress could play the role of Roopa on screen, and he had two names in mind. “I think actresses such as Anushka Shetty and Nayantara will do justice to it. But, I am yet to finalise the script. Once I do that I will plan further including who I have to rope in for the movie,” he says.
