A horror anthology with a difference

A horror anthology with a difference

The upcoming film, 6 Athiyayam, joins the small list of anthologies in Tamil cinema. The film falls under the horror genre but what sets it apart is the fact that the two-hour-long film has segregated the six films in it based on the chief emotion conveyed, including comedy, and romance.

Talking to CE about the film, co-producer and co-director Cable Sankar says, “Usually in anthology films, one film ends up not being as intriguing as another. So the audience wouldn’t get the satisfaction of watching a feature film. So, we decided to play each of the six films until just before the climax. All the six climax portions will be played in the last half an hour with a small recap of the story. We hope that people will like an anthology if it’s done this way.”

The director also assures that the six films aren’t connected in any way. “Only the genre is common to all the films. I can also confirm that we’re the first in the world to pull off something like this with an anthology.”

Each film is by a different director. Apart from Cable Shankar himself, the rest of the directors are Ajayan Bala, Shankar Thiyagarajan, Sridhar Venkatesan, Lokesh Rajendran, and EAV Suresh.

The team has also come up with a promo song under Sam CS’s music whose recent release, Vikram Vedha, has been receiving rave reviews. “We’re planning to release the promo in Sri Lanka in a function. The song will have a dance sequence which we’ve shot and later converted into 2D animation,” he says. “Usually, the figures used in such animation are templates, but we’ve made sure the faces of the dancers we’ve employed for the songs, are visible in the animated version too.”

The six short films are titled Misai, Soup Boy Subramani, Chithiram Kolluthadi, Anamika, Super Hero and Ini
