Namitha Pramod's version of Malar

Namitha Pramod, who just wrapped up her Tamil debut, the remake of Maheshinte Prathikaram, says Udhayanidhi Stalin is one of the best co-stars she has ever had. Terming him "a sweet guy and supportive actor," Namitha says she was very comfortable on the sets of her debut film, thanks to director Priyadarshan and Udanayanidhi.

"In fact, I consider myself fortunate to have worked with them. Priyan sir is extremely cool on the sets. For someone who has an enviable body of work to boast of, Priyan sir is so relaxed while working. He handpicked me for the character of Malar. We bonded well, considering that we are neighbours in Thiruvananthapuram. The same with Udayanidhi, who is an established star in Tamil. He is a very grounded guy and very sincere towards his work," says Namitha.

The actress says that she didn't, even once, feel that this was a Tamil project. "Most of the assistant directors and technicians were Malayalis. So, it was like any other Malayalam project," she says.

Namitha adds that she is wowed by the professionalism in Kollywood. "Everybody treats an artiste with respect. Though it was my debut, Udhayanidhi treated me like a senior artiste, considering that I have done quite a few movies in Malayalam," says Namitha.

On Malar
Namitha says that Malar is the Tamil version of Jimsy. However, the two characters don't share many similarities. "Though it is a remake of Maheshinte Prathikaram, the movie is dissimilar to the original. The story has been tweaked to suit Tamil sensibilities. Of course, the entertainment quotient is given prominence and the narrative is different too. This is a more colourful film," says Namitha.

She says Malar will have a different look. "She is a girl from Madurai, so I wear ordinary churidars. In fact, Priyan sir has a clear idea of his characters," she adds.

However, Namitha says she won't be dubbing for the film. "The movie is set in rustic Tamil Nadu, and hence the slang is quite tough to mouth. So, I won't be dubbing for it."

Future projects
Two projects which Namitha was a part of--Professor Dinkan and Kammarasambavam--stalled after Dileep was arrested. She says it was the dates she had orignially allotted for these projects that she later used for the Priyadarshan movie. So, will she start shooting for those films soon? "I have so far received no word with regard to both the projects. I am also waiting like everybody else," she says.
