‘I want to explore all genres’

Naga Anvesh is slowly making his strides in the industry. Despite being highly successful as a child artiste, the young actor didn’t go on a signing spree after his first film as an adult. He is awaiting the release of his second film Angel, which comes after a gap of over two years from his debut film Vinavayya Ramayya. “The writing of Angel took more than 18 months. So, I got a little out of the scene,” says Anvesh.

He is back in a new look with a new perspective. “I faced moderate criticism after Vinavayya Ramayya. I went for a complete makeover to get into the skin of my character in Angel. I bulked up and turned macho to get the appropriate look. I will be seen in a rugged avatar and it took me eight months to grow a thick beard,” laughs Anvesh.

About his role, the actor says, “I play a free-spirited youngster in the film and Sapthagiri plays my friend. We steal an ancient statute of Satavahana Empire from Amaravathi and try to smuggle it across the border to Telangana. But, we get entangled in a tricky situation, and face the ire of a group of goons. How we will come out of it forms the story.”

And, with the release of the theatrical trailer, the similarity between Angel and Chiranjeevi-starrer Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari and other socio-fantasies have been pointed out. But Anvesh says that Angel is completely different and bears no similarity with any other films. “Although it’s a socio-fantasy entertainer and has a plot where the female lead happens to visit Earth for a purpose, the story and the characterisations are entirely different. Hebah’s role will bail me and Sapthagiri from an unexpected situation.”

The film directed by Palani promises to be a visual extravaganza. “The film is loaded with 45 minutes of special effects. The climax fight with Garuda will thrill the audience to bits. The special effects have added a whole new dimension to the movie and the second half has some best VFX work you will see in Telugu cinema,” the actor says.

Anvesh is hopeful of tasting his first commercial hit with Angel. “The film is filled with adequate entertainment and fascinating twists and turns. The interval bang will raise the expectations further. I’m confident of cementing my place as an actor with this film.”

The actor is ready to explore more genres. “I don’t want to confine myself to one particular genre. I'd like to dabble in comedy, drama, action and romantic films. So, no genre is my preference,” he concludes.
