First look at India's first space film

The first look poster of Jayam Ravi-starrer Tik Tik Tik, which has the actor in a space suit, hanging by a rope, was unveiled on Monday. The film, which is almost complete, marks the second collaboration of Ravi and director Shakti Soundar Rajan, after the zombie thriller, Miruthan.

Shakti tells CE, "Ours is the first-ever Indian space film, and we have explored the genre in a commercial format. It's an intriguing script. More than filmmaking, putting things together on paper for such a mammoth film was a huge task. Ravi has done extremely well."

He found it challenging to figure out a way to engage the audience as the story eventually shifts to space in the second half. "There aren't many elements to play around with. For instance, the film does not have much of romance. Also, songs have been shot as montages. Despite these, we are confident that Tik Tik Tik will appeal to everybody." The filmmaker says he was impressed by Ravi's dedication. "He pulled off this rope-stunt scene, which was shot in Munnar for three weeks, despite an injury," he adds.

Interestingly, the actor says he does not play an astronaut in the film. "I play a magician, but I am a part of a space expedition. I attended magic classes from an illusionist to prepare. I am sure children will like the film as it has scenes involving zero gravity. For some scenes, I was required to hang on ropes. More than physical strength, it was a test for my mind," Ravi says, adding it will be an interesting experience to watch the story unfold on the big screen.

This film also marks Ravi's son Aarav's debut in Tamil cinema. "I am excited, and I must say he is a better actor than me. He balanced his school-related commitments and acting gracefully." The actor says they used to shoot for the film after his son returned from school. "I am really proud of him. When Shakti wanted Aarav on board, I was apprehensive because he normally won't even sit still in one place. But he surprised me by being patient and focused," he smiles.

Tik Tik Tik also stars Nivetha Pethuraj and Singaporean actor Aziz Aaron in important roles. Produced by Hitesh Jhabak, the film has music by D Imman.
