‘The tailor-made character made me say yes to Ayogya’

Mahesh Kumar’s directorial debut, Ayogya staring Sathish Ninasam and Rachita Ram will bring back yesteryear actress Saritha to the silver screen after her long hiatus. The popular actress who entered Kannada cinema in 1975 worked on around 20 movies in the industry before she took a break in 1989.

She was mostly paired opposite Dr Rajkumar and the two made a hit combination in movies like Hosabelaku, Chalisova Modagalu, Kamana Billu, and Bhakta Prahalada. Malaya Marutha was another popular film where she was paired opposite Vishnuvardhan.

An excited Saritha tells CE, “Mahesh has sketched a wonderful character for me and something that is tailor-made for me. I had to say yes immediately. The subject is beautiful and has wonderful producers who are very passionate about cinema. I am happy to be part of the movie,” she says. The actress will be seen as Sathish Ninasam’s mother in the film.

When asked what it takes for her to decide on a subject today and she says, “Although the process of filmaking has undergone a sea of change, I am still the same. I will never compromise on my role. I know it is not the right thing to say, but that is how I view a film.” She adds, “I am happy to see a handful of good directors still around since I first joined the industry.”

Sarita says she wants to justify every role she plays and reminisces of her hey days in the industry. “Kannada industry is one place where I always feel at home. I am also glad that young filmmakers still remember me,” she adds.
