AR Murugadoss to 'thank' Varun Rajendran in Sarkar title card as the plagiarism controversy comes to an end

Varun and the filmmaker agreed to this compromise as part of an out-of-court settlement
AR Murugadoss to 'thank' Varun Rajendran in Sarkar title card as the plagiarism controversy comes to an end

With the South Indian Film Writers Association admitting that the script of AR Murugadoss' upcoming film, Sarkar, is not original, the plagiarism row between AR Murugadoss and assistant director Varun Rajendiran moved to the Madras High Court. The case was presided over by Judge M Sundar. Lawyer Arvind Pandian, arguing on behalf of the production team, said that a compromise has been reached between the two parties and an email sent to Varun Rajendiran with details of the settlement.

Following the release of the teaser of Sarkar, Varun Rajendran had lodged a complaint with the South Indian Film Writer's Association claiming that the film is similar to his script, Sengol, which was registered with the body in 2007.

The details have now emerged that following Bhagyaraj's plea to the warring parties, AR Murugadoss will be attaching the below two notes (English and Tamil versions) before the title card crediting Varun for having the same inspiration.

The credit reads: "Denying the fundamental right of voters by bogus voting is a dangerous crime affecting the welfare of our country. I imagined that a movie could be made with the theme that a hero whose votes is bogusly cast fights against the injustice and established the truth and thereby creates awareness among the masses. After discussing months I wrote the script for SARKAR and directed the movie. I came to know that one co-director Mr.K.V.Rajendran BSc.D.F.Tech @ Varun had also imagined the same theme and had registered his script with our South Indian Film Writers Association. I am recording this to praise upcoming co-director Mr.K.V.Rajendran B.Sc.D.F.Tech @ Varun for having imagined and having registering his script before me. I hereby convey my heartfelt thanks to our South Indian Film Writer's Association for identifying a talented colleague to the cinema world."

However, the film will credit Murugadoss for the Story-Screenplay and Direction departments, according to a video message from the Sarkar director.
