Shashank's directorial with Upendra to be a social drama

That actor Upendra and director Shashank would come together for a film was the news of 2016. Three years on, the filmmaker made an official announcement of the film’s schedule on Monday. While this is the ninth film by the director, it's the second made under his production house.

With the plot of the film ready, only the pre-production work remains to be completed before the shoot begins. Talking about the film’s subject, Shashank says, “That’s a million dollar question for a director who is helming a project for a creative person like Upendra.  Having said that, I have penned a unique subject for him. It’s a social drama, the plot of which is woven keeping in mind today’s scenario.”

Since he has piqued our curiosity with his response, we further ask if the film revolves around Upendra’s interest in politics? “No,” he says, adding, “When I was working on the subject, he had not yet entered politics. This is going to be my kind of cinema keeping Upendra’s image in mind. I want to capture my vision with his on-screen persona. In Upendra’s films, dialogues take centre stage, and the story is unpredictable.”

Meanwhile, Shashank is also preparing for the release of Thayige Thakka Maga. The film, starring Ajai Rao, Ashika Ranganath and Sumalatha, has been given an A certificate and will hit the screens on November 16. “I will start the prep work for Uppi’s film only in December. I need at least three months. In all likelihood, we will kick-start the shoot from March,” he concludes.
