After his 2015 film Eeti, starring Atharvaa, director Ravi Arasu is staging a comeback of sorts with Ayngaran. Starring GV Prakash Kumar and Mahima Nambiar, the film is the story of skilled mechanical engineer. “A mechanical engineering graduate can bag a cushy job if chooses to go abroad. But there are people who want their skill to be of use to our people and country, even if it is a less lucrative option. Ayngaran is the story of such a person.” Ravi decided to name the film Ayngaran as an indication of the hero’s skill. Karam in Tamil refers to hands. “The protagonist is someone who can do the work of five people,” he explains.

Ravi discloses that he had made several changes to the script after GV Prakash was signed. “I had approached several other heroes. But once GV came on board, I toned down the ‘mass’ elements and made the character subtler to suit his persona and image. This will be an important film in his career.”

Ayngaran went on floors in 2017 and faced a few delays in production. But Ravi remains positive. “We had to face three strikes while shooting for the film. That itself caused a delay of five months. I trust my writing and it has come out well on the big screen,” he asserts.

The director says he doesn’t believe in making half-hearted films. His films, he says, will be the kind that gets spoken about even after considerable time has elapsed. “I took my time after Eeti to write this script. This film will be completely my product. I am quite confident about it.”
