Pa Ranjith's Bollywood debut based on Birsa Munda

It was announced in May that Pa Ranjith would make his Bollywood debut in collaboration with Namah Pictures, known for producing Majid Majidi’s Beyond The Clouds. It is now known that the film will be based on tribal leader and freedom fighter, Birsa Munda. With the project expected to go on floors in May, Ranjith is currently busy visiting tribal villages in the North for research. The cast of the untitled film has not been finalised yet.

An active name in the freedom struggle, Birsa Munda is the only tribal leader to have his portrait in the central hall of the Indian Parliament. Incidentally, Aramm-director Gopi Nainar had also announced that he would be making a film on Birsa Munda. It is notable that the filmmaker had claimed that Ranjith’s 2014 hit, Madras, was based on a story of his.
