My wife won’t let me in during the shoot of Arjun Reddy remake: Shahid Kapoor

Actor Shahid Kapoor is excited to play the lead role in the Hindi remake of Arjun Reddy. The film will be helmed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, who also directed the original Telugu film starring Vijay Deverakonda. The story follows a high-functioning alcoholic surgeon as he spirals into self-destruction.

When asked if he has seen the original Arjun Reddy, Shahid says, “Of course I’ve seen the film. How else do you decide on a project? I thought it was very well-performed and well-directed. The film had a very fresh treatment. I was slightly hesitant since the original film was already so good and we didn’t want to spoil it, as often happens. But it was providing me the opportunity to do something that was exciting and challenging. I felt greedy and picked up the role.”

When probed about the intensity of the character, Shahid agrees, “Yes, it is intense. I am going to have my second child soon and I’ll be playing an alcoholic, crazy guy. I don’t think my wife (Mira Rajput) will let me into the house during the shoot. I have an office space where I’ll probably crash (laughs).”

Shahid Kapoor’s upcoming release is Batti Gul Meter Chalu. Directed by Shree Narayan Singh, the film is set in Uttarakhand and tackles the issue of exorbitant electricity prices. Shahid has also signed a biopic on boxer Dingko Singh, who won a Gold medal at the 1998 Asian Games and was awarded the Padma Shri in 2013.

"The definition of an actor is to be versatile. My fundamental understanding of cinema and acting is that you must tell a new story every time. That freshness must reflect in your performance. As a fraternity, we are getting better at accepting new stories and new characters. Audiences too are becoming more adventurous with their tastes. So it's better to keep trying new things instead of treading a safe path," Shahid says.
