Triple take on Double Engine

The shooting of Double Engine, directed by Chandra Mohan, began in 2015, but the film was put on hold due to demonitisation. Now, the film finally gets a release in 2018. Cinema Express speaks to actors Chikkanna, Ashok Sharma and Prabhu Mundkur about the comedy film.

"Double engine is a humourous take on a serious issue"

According to Chikkanna, Double Engine is a humourous take on a serious issue. "The director tries to explore how village youths takes short cuts to make money and the consequences they face," he says. "While I try to make people laugh, the story tries to give out a message, and we feel, it is the best way to reach the audience. I am glad to be part of such subjects," adds Chikkanna, who says he is glad he got to work with actor Suman Ranganath. "She didn't behave like a senior actor with us and we found it extremely comfortable working with her."

"I was the last to be picked for Double Engine"

Prabhu Mundkur, who was then debuting with Urvi, was picked up for Double Engine in the last minute. "To my surprise, I was called in for an audition in Mandya. I remember giving auditions from dawn to dusk. The best part is, I got to know that I am part of the film from an article," he says. Prabhu watched Chikkanna in Masterpiece and was excited to work with him. "I am also happy I got the chance to work with the best comedians and actors in the industry. The film has Dattanna, Sadhu Kokila, Padmavasanti, Shobhraj, Achyuth Kumar, Biradar and it's a privilege to associate with them," he adds.

"Every scene in Double Engine will make you laugh"

Director Chandra Mohan approached Ashok  Sharma in 2014 after watching his performance in Mr and Mrs Ramachari. He confirmed him for the role after one year. "Irrespective of the time of release, every scene in this film will bring out laughter and that is one of the reasons that made me accept it. Also, I was happy to associate with Chikkanna," says Ashok.
